BOTOX® and Juvederm® are medical treatments that are injected into the facial muscles. They improve the appearance of subtle-to-severe frown lines and moderate-to-severe crow’s feet lines.
What is Botox®?
Botox® is one of the most comprehensively studied aesthetic treatments in the world. Known and trusted in 78 countries, Botox® is the #1 selling product of its kind worldwide. Botox® Injections contain highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from Clostridium botulinum. Botox® Injections work by targeting specific muscles and temporarily slowing down the muscle activity.
What is Juvederm®?
Juvederm® is a soft injectable that is used to temporarily treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles, typically around the mouth and nose area including nasolabial folds: the crease from the nose to the corner of the mouth.
Juvederm® is a low-risk gel filler made with hyaluronic acid, a sugar found in the body, and combines with the water in your skin to combat aging due to loss of volume most common in the face and hands. Treatments typically take between 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the areas treated, and results last anywhere from six to nine months in typical patients.
What is Belkyra™?
Belkyra™ is the first and only Health Canada approved injectable treatment that targets and eliminates fat below the chin by eliminating fat cells gradually improving the appearance of your chin profile over a number of treatments.
How Do They Help?
Botox® Injections target the muscles that most frequently contract from frowning, squinting and other facial movements— in other words, the underlying cause of frown lines and crow’s feet. By temporarily slowing down the muscle activity, the skin smooths out and wrinkles are drastically reduced. Results are typically visible 24-48 hours following the treatment, and last upwards of 4 months.
Many patients choose Juvederm® as a softer, more natural approach to combatting lines and wrinkles as the hyaluronic acid reacts with the water in your skin to fill in volume loss as opposed to stripping or tightening the skin.
Juvederm® works to fill in facial lines and can be used to even scarring from acne or injury. Many patients report a natural, smooth look to their skin afterward and results are often seen shortly after treatment.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Botox® Injections can be used to treat most facial areas that are prone to wrinkles, lines, and other noticeable conditions like the appearance of deep-set eyes. Botox® Injections can be used on crow’s feet, frown lines, around and under the eyes, on the forehead, on and between eyebrows, around the mouth, and on the neck.
Typically, Juvederm® is used for the lower half of the face (lips and nose area), while Botox® is often recommended for the upper half of the face (eyes and brow/forehead area). Many patients use Juvederm® as a lip filler as well to subtly smooth and plump the lips.
Juvederm® is also often used on the hands, another area that often experiences aging due to a loss of volume.
This is an outpatient procedure with little to no down time and injections contain pain-reducing lidocaine to ease discomfort.
